Douglas Lwanga Says Many Ugandans Are Not Okay

Ugandan TV personality and youth advocate Douglas Lwanga has raised concern over what he describes as a growing mental health crisis in the country.

In a recent post on social media, Lwanga said many people are silently struggling, even those who appear to have their lives together.

He warned that this hidden pressure is showing up in everyday interactions, where small misunderstandings quickly escalate into arguments or even physical confrontations.

I think Ugandans are going through a severe mental health crisis. People are not okay, even the ones who seem like they have it all together aren’t. That’s why a small misunderstanding with someone can evolve into a heated argument or even a fight.

Lwanga urged the public to be more mindful in how they speak and interact with others, noting that many are carrying unresolved stress.

Be mindful of how you deal with people out there. There is too much unresolved stress within people. Do not play around, do not joke around, be mindful of statements you push out. Abantu tebali bulungi atte banyivu.

His message quickly drew reactions from followers, with many agreeing and sharing their own perspectives on the issue.

Some pointed to emotional intelligence as key, saying people should learn when to speak, how to speak, and how to read the room rather than completely holding back.

Others noted that the issue goes beyond Uganda, arguing that many adults everywhere are dealing with personal struggles they cannot easily explain, making it even more important to be mindful in everyday interactions.

For many, the message was simple and relatable, with some summing it up in one word: reality.
